Eight Never-told Business Success Secrets

By: Darren Williger

After talking to business gurus starting from Brian Tracy to Dr Wayne Dyer, author Michael Jefferies compiled the following 8 sure-shot ways to succeed in business:

  1. Think that the buck stops with you:  It is not rare to find people putting the blame for everything that is going wrong with their lives, to their boss, government, global warming, parents, etc. These are the people who are perennial “victims’’ who feel “wronged”. When you pass on the blame to someone else, it is as good as admitting that the controlling gear of your life rests with someone else and not with you. With regard to peoples’ opinion about you, take it the way they look at things, which can be quite different from your own views of things. In short, take control of your own life and be responsible for whatever is happening to you.
  2. Set a purpose in life: The different between achievers and non-achievers is that the former group of people believes what they are doing or the task given to them. On the other hand, the non-achievers live through the day since there is nothing else better to do. They live life hoping for the least of problems. When you set a purpose in life, you tend to do the job right. Each time and every time. For the successful performer, life is all about setting a purpose or a dream in life and building their business to achieve that goal.
  3. There is nothing called a free lunch: Every one loves to have or own the good things of life; a luxury villa, the best car in the market along with a couple of millions stashed away in the bank. But there is a price you have to pay to acquire wealth and status which non-achievers are not willing to pay. Remember there is a price tag attached to most things in life, including success.
  4. Remove clutter. Stay Focused: Like any of us you too could be loaded with external influences like phone calls, messages, and mails etc., which are all competing to get a share of your attention. To be able to focus on matters which are going to bring long term and sustainable dividends you would have to remove some present day clutter and put your mind to matters which matter most. The art is to know which ones are the frills and which ones deserve your attention. Canfield and Mark Hanson, authors of the book ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ were initially turned down by many publishers. Instead of feeling dejected by their refusals, the authors decided to hold multiple interviews per week in different media like television, radio, etc for a whole year. Then a small publisher decided to take a chance. The rest is history. Today the book, in the form of a large series has sold nearly 10 million copies.
  5. Be the best in your profession: One of the striking things in an achiever is the depth of their knowledge in their chosen field. They put in their best, know most and would go to any length to expand their mental horizon about their subject. Imagine someone shooting you with a camera through out any business day – where would the results take you? Would this leave you embarrassed or proud? Strive to be an expert in your field and become an authority on the subject.
  6. Prepare the road map to achieve goals: No goal worthwhile can be reached unless you have a blueprint ready for its road map. Write down your goals and how to achieve it and then follow it to the tee. Never keep all these things in your head.
  7. Never give up on your goals: No path to success is a bed of roses. There would be insurmountable barriers and obstacles on the way. But giving up is a sign of lack of self-confidence. Carry on, no mater what comes in the way, as if success is just round the corner.
  8. Believe in the Power of Now: Remember time is running out. By the time you finish reading this, some precious moments have passed by which would never come back. All of us nearing our ‘expiry date’ so to speak, from the time we were born. Successful performers view this as something positive, which makes their adrenalin rush. They take this quick passage of time as an event which is perpetually pushing them on to take on another job, another day. They hate postponing matters as much as possible and tackle issues with the speed of light.

The thing to remember in life is that all that you have is this present moment, since both past is over and future is illusory. Your job is to make the most of today, as if there is no tomorrow.
